Hi, Erik here.
A post about Find the Gnome 2: I have published a new version to Steam, version 2.2.1 in-game and on Steam its visible as 2.2.5.
Whats in the update
The main reason for the update is so that it uses the updated Unity and thus possible security risks with it are resolved (although to my knowledge Steam did themselves also hot patch every Unity binary themselves).
Also some minor updates to Find the Gnome 2 arrived with that update. Its a bit hard for me to follow what actually was released to the production release on Steam (and not only to the Beta branch). But I am confident that it is a good and well functioning version, and that some bugs that I remembered aren’t in it anymore so that’s good.
The release
On the releasing of the development side of the update itself: somehow my build pipeline wasn’t working properly anymore due to updates to the way Steam wants to receive automated build uploads. Couple this together with an experimental build pipeline change that I didn’t know I was working on and that also was in the release.
TLDR; for a few hours I had a non working Find the Gnome 2 game on Steam that had some interesting errors when you tried to start it.
I found out quickly enough that it wasn’t working so I switched back to an older upload so that at least my Steam players didn’t experience an outage while I resolved the issues.
Eventually I figured out the changes I had to make to get it all back into shape and let the build pipeline produce functioning builds again.
In the end
So yeah… that’s the experience of a developer wanting to give a released game some love and then finding out that he didn’t leave it in a properly working state… that wasn’t ment to happen.
But in the end all that matters is that it is working now.
